We’re a horror market based in Scotland in the UK, focused on short stories. This means promotional efforts will mostly be done with British partners and outlets (that’s not to say we don’t welcome worldwide entries, just that any promotion will be done closer to ‘home’).
I’ll accept anything except needless gorefests and erotica. ‘Anything’ doesn’t include illegal stuff or sicko rape-fantasies. Get out of here with that nonsense.
Most importantly, I’m looking for quality, the next big voice in the horror-sphere.

A note on AI: This is a human market. No AI allowed . Anyone caught sending me AI-produced submissions will be blackballed. As we edit successful stories, we will never input your work into any AI tool such as Co-Pilot or ProWriting Aid. We use our own eyes here.
I don’t care who you are or where you’re from, I’m seeking quality. I will publish anyone as long as the story is brilliant. This is a quality project, not a quantity project.
We’re seeking horror stories between 500-10,000 words for posting here and on our YouTube channel.
Each successful tale will receive a flat payment of £15 (GBP), and we’ll be asking for both print and audio rights. Once we get going, it’s our ambition to up these payments to pro rates.
On publication, we’ll ask for first world exclusive rights for a period of three months. All rights remain with the author of the work.
These tales will be posted early next year. The submission period will close when we’ve received enough good stories. We’re looking for original stories only, no reprints.
All submissions should be sent to submissions@amidnightkindofplace.com as attachments (no pdfs.).
Submission emails should have the subject – Submission: (Title) by (Author Name).
Each entrant should follow the standard Shunn manuscript format.
In the body of the email, please add a short bio (and don’t be scared to say hello!).
